Walser and the Berlin Beer Halls

Aschinger Restaurant

"Some of the people around me chat as they eat.  The self-importance with which they do this is appealing.  As long as someone undertakes something, he might as well do it with dignity, in a businesslike manner.  Dignity and self-confidence give the impression of contentment, at least to me they do, that's why I like so much to stand around in one or the other of our Aschinger restaurants, where people drink, eat, speak, and think all at the same time..."
