Paul Éluard - French Poetry

Habits

All my girlfriends are hunchbacks:
They love their mothers.
All my animals are obligatory,
They have furniture feet
And window hands.
The wind is deformed,
It needs a suit made to measure,
Without measure.
This is why
I speak the truth without speaking it.

L'habitude

Toutes mes petites amies sont bossues:
Elles aiment leur mère.
Tous mes animaux sont obligatoires,
Ils ont des pieds de meuble
Et des mains de fenêtre.
Le vent se déforme.
Il lui faut un habit sur mesure,
Démesuré.
Voilà pourquoi
Je dis la vérité sans la dire.
