From this side of the river everything that interests you keeps the same mechanics.  The balconies open to let in the most sun possible, the girls parking their mopeds, the screens covered by curtains, the retirees sitting in the plazas.  Here the text isn't conscious of anything but its own life.  The shadow you're provisionally calling author barely even bothers to describe how the stranger prepared everything for her Atlantis moment.
