Heidegger - The Shepherd and the Desert

Shepherds live invisibly and outside of the desert of the desolated earth, which is only supposed to be of use for the guarantee of the dominance of man whose effects are limited to judging whether something is important or unimportant in life.  As the will to will, this life demands in advance that all knowledge move in the manner of guaranteeing calculation and valuation.
